Summer Fun and Safer Futures in April
April in the Philippines brought the intensity of summer, with long, hot days and rising temperatures felt across every community we visited. Yet with the summer season also came unique opportunities for ministry, as school break gave many children more time and availability to participate in our outreach programs and Saturday sessions. This allowed us to engage with more children, creating valuable opportunities to bring hope, truth, and encouragement to young lives during their time away from school.
Help us celebrate our wins:
This month, we were grateful to launch our “I Can Be Strong, Smart, and Safe” booklet and community seminar series on child safety in two new locations, with around 30 children faithfully attending our Saturday sessions. It has been encouraging to see the children actively engage as they learn about personal safety, protection, hygiene, and their value as individuals. One of the key topics in this booklet focuses on personal hygiene and practical self-care. As part of this lesson, each child was given a simple hygiene kit to help them immediately apply what they learned at home. This hands-on approach not only reinforces the importance of healthy habits but also empowers the children to practice self-care in tangible ways as they grow in understanding that caring for themselves is part of recognizing their worth and dignity.
Another significant highlight this month was our Spiritual Enhancement seminar for children under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office’s Children in Conflict with the Law program. Our seminar created a meaningful space to remind each child that they are deeply valued, that their lives matter, and that their circumstances do not define their identity or their future. A key part of these sessions focused on teaching the children their fundamental rights as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We guided them in understanding that they have the right to be protected, to be heard, to receive care, and to live with dignity. More than simply presenting these as legal principles, we emphasized that these rights reflect their God-given worth and inherent value. Our desire is for each child to leave with a stronger sense of identity, greater awareness of their protection, and renewed hope for the future. In addition to ministering to the children, we were given the opportunity to speak with their mothers. This was a meaningful time of encouragement as we listened to their struggles, shared words of hope, and pointed them toward Jesus, the One who offers true peace even amid difficult circumstances and uncertainty about their children’s situations.
Our team continued to strengthen our efforts toward building new partnerships and collaborative opportunities to expand the reach of child protection education. Our team had the opportunity to set up information booths at two conferences in Cebu, where we connected with individuals, churches, and organizations that share a heart for protecting and empowering vulnerable children. These events provided valuable opportunities to introduce the work of Redeeming Zoe Inc., raise awareness about our child protection initiatives, and cultivate relationships that may open doors for future training, community outreach, and collaborative ministry efforts.
This month, we also held a special Club Kinabuhi Family Day at the beach, a joyful time of connection, laughter, and shared experiences for our children and their families. The day was filled with games, fellowship, and a lively mothers’ cooking contest that brought much excitement and participation. Beyond the fun, gatherings like these play an important role in our child protection initiatives. Family days create opportunities to strengthen healthy family relationships, foster trust between children and caregivers, and encourage positive engagement within the home. For many of our Club Kinabuhi participants, these moments provide a safe and nurturing environment where they experience belonging, encouragement, and meaningful connection. By strengthening family bonds and promoting positive interaction, we help build protective factors that contribute to a child’s overall safety, emotional well-being, and resilience.
WHAT’S TO COME:
Expanding Partnership Opportunities – Our team will be setting up another informational booth at an upcoming conference, continuing to build relationships and explore new collaborative opportunities to expand child protection initiatives into more communities.
Ongoing Child Protection Trainings – We will continue conducting child safety seminar trainings and awareness sessions for children, families, and community partners, equipping more individuals with practical tools for prevention and protection.
Strengthening Community Programs – We look forward to continuing our regular Club Kinabuhi activities and outreach sessions, creating safe spaces for children to learn, grow, and experience hope through education, encouragement, and Christ-centered care.
