October was a busy and meaningful month for Redeeming Zoe Philippines as we continue strengthening child protection efforts through community outreach, church partnerships, parent education, and staff development. We are grateful for the opportunities to equip children, empower caregivers, and work alongside communities committed to creating safer environments for children.
Each training and outreach reminds us that child protection is not a one-time activity, but an ongoing commitment that requires awareness, intentional relationships, and people willing to stand alongside children and families.
Wins in October:
Celebrating Progress in Child Protection
One of the highlights of the month was the graduation of 60 children who completed the I Can Be Strong, Smart and Safe (ICBSSS) curriculum in Barangay Soong, Lapu-Lapu City. This milestone represents an important step in helping children understand personal safety, recognize unsafe situations, and identify trusted adults they can approach for help. While graduation marks the completion of the curriculum for these children, the work does not end there. Through the dedication of our community volunteers, child protection education continues to reach children and families, helping build a culture of safety and awareness within their communities. We are grateful for these volunteers, whose consistent service makes it possible for this work to continue beyond individual training sessions.
We also conducted prevention education for Children and Youth at Bogo Full Gospel Church, reaching 61 participants through child-focused safety education. These initiatives continue to affirm the importance of equipping children with age-appropriate knowledge and practical tools to help protect themselves.
Strengthening Parents and Communities
Recognizing that protecting children requires the involvement of the adults and communities around them, we continued providing opportunities for parents and community members to deepen their understanding of child protection.
At Jesus of Mt. Olives Church, we conducted a parents' training with 18 participants, equipping caregivers with knowledge and awareness to help create safer environments for children within their homes and families.
We also partnered with Christ Faith Fellowship District Churches in Daan Bantayan and the Barangay Tominjao community, reaching 44 participants through child protection awareness and education. These partnerships are essential in building shared responsibility for children's safety and strengthening the role of churches and communities in prevention.
Through these engagements, we continue to encourage parents, church leaders, and community members to be intentional in protecting children, recognizing potential risks, and fostering environments where children are heard, supported, and safe.
Extending Awareness to Vulnerable Communities
October provided valuable opportunities to strengthen our team's capacity through two training initiatives that support our broader organizational development and commitment to community well-being.
Our staff participated in a competency training organized in collaboration with Glory Reborn Organization and the Department of Health, developing additional skills in community-based HIV screening and counseling. While this initiative extends beyond our primary child protection programs, it contributes to our team's professional growth and broadens the range of skills we may be able to draw upon in responding to future community needs.
We also participated in an Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) awareness and collaboration initiative involving NGOs working across Cebu Province. This initiative brought organizations together around a shared commitment to addressing OSAEC through stronger partnerships, coordinated prevention efforts, and sustained collaboration. As part of this initiative, Redeeming Zoe Philippines has committed to joining the Technical Working Group (TWG), contributing to a collaborative effort focused on addressing OSAEC across Cebu Province over the next three years. Through this partnership, we look forward to working alongside other NGOs and stakeholders to strengthen prevention strategies, share knowledge and resources, and support more coordinated efforts to protect children from online sexual abuse and exploitation. We recognize that addressing OSAEC requires more than individual awareness sessions. It calls for sustained collaboration, collective responsibility, and long-term commitment from organizations and communities. Our participation in this initiative reflects Redeeming Zoe's continued commitment to strengthening strategic alliances and contributing to a more coordinated response to online child sexual abuse and exploitation.
These capacity-building opportunities reinforce our commitment not only to strengthening our internal team but also to building partnerships that can expand our impact and contribute to safer communities for children.
We look forward to continuing our partnerships with churches, community leaders, volunteers, and organizations that share our commitment to child protection. We remain encouraged by the growing opportunities to equip children, strengthen families, and expand awareness of abuse, exploitation, and online safety. We are reminded that lasting change is built through consistent efforts, trusted relationships, and communities that take shared responsibility for the well-being of children. We thank God for every opportunity to serve and for the people who continue to make this work possible.
